Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African
savanna where a future king is born.

Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny.

“The Lion King is” an upcoming American musical fantasy drama film
directed by Jon Favreau
and produced by Walt Disney Pictures
It is a photorealistic computer animated
remake of Disney’s traditionally animated
1994 film of the same name.

The film stars the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor,
Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter,
and James Earl Jones.

Donald Glover as Simba, a lion who is the crown prince of the Pride Lands.
JD McCrary as young Simba
Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, a wise-cracking meerkat and a slow-witted common warthog who befriend and adopt a young Simba after he runs away from home.

Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, the treacherous brother of Mufasa and the uncle of Simba who seeks to take the mantle of king.
Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, the Queen of the Pride Lands, Mufasa’s mate, and Simba’s mother.
Beyoncé as Nala, Simba’s childhood best friend and future love-interest.
Shahadi Wright Joseph as young Nala
James Earl Jones as Mufasa, the King of the Pride Lands and the father of Simba. Jones reprises his role from the original 1994 animated film.
John Kani as Rafiki, a wise mandrill who serves as the shaman of the Pride Lands and a close friend of Mufasa’s.

John Oliver as Zazu, a red-billed hornbill who is the advisor to the King of the Pride Lands.

Florence Kasumba, Eric Andre, and Keegan-Michael Key as Shenzi,
Azizi and Kamari, three spotted hyenas and Scar’s henchmen.

While Shenzi is a character that was featured in the original 1994 animated film, Kamari and Azizi are the respective renames of Banzai and Ed from the original film.

Amy Sedaris as an unspecified elephant shrew, a character not featured in the original film.

Storyline

A young lion prince is cast out of his pride by his cruel uncle, who claims he killed his father.

While the uncle rules with an iron paw, the prince grows up beyond the Savannah,
living by a philosophy : No worries for the rest of your days.
But when his past comes to haunt him, the young prince must decide his fate: Will he remain an outcast or face his demons and become what he needs to be?
